PDC Updates

Posted on 04 January 2012 by admin

For the Spring 2012 semester the PDC email has changed.  The new email for it is asutv@astate.edu.  Don’t send requests to ccpillow@astate.edu.  This new email will help make the sign up process more efficient for everyone.  For those unfamiliar with the process the steps are listed below:

1.  See the calendar to identify what event you would like to sign up for.  It is located on our homepage (www.asutv.com) in the lower right hand corner OR can be accessed at https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=asutv@astate.edu&ctz=America/Chicago&gsessionid=2Gp789aD-SHDNSVuVlSulw.  We advise you bookmark that calendar if you use that link .

2.  Send an email to asutv@astate.edu  Stating the even name, date, AND time.

3.  Show up to the event you have signed up for.  BE SURE TO SIGN-IN.  THE SIGN IN SHEETS ARE LOCATED IN THE CORNER NEAR THE AUDIO BOOTH.  If you don’t sign up OR sign in, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT.  No Exceptions.

PDC events are not easy credits.  You must work and participate in the event.  Showing up or being late will ensure your reduced credit or no credit for the event.  These are fun and give you real-world experience.  You and the rest of the crew won’t have fun if you bring a negative attitude.  Simply standing at a camera not paying attention will not ensure credit for your PDC.  Think of it as a job, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.  Same concept.

We in the RTV department and at ASU-TV want you to have a fun learning experience.  That is, after all, one of the reasons ASU-TV is here: to serve as a laboratory of instruction for students.

Can’t wait to see you in the Studio or at the ASU-TV Sports Production Truck!

GSC Funding
By: Kalup Phillips

Emotions ran high today at the Grad Student Council meeting as the issue of funding was disscussed.  The Grad Student Council, which serves as the grad students voice here at the Arkansas State campus, currently recieves no funding from the administraiton.  The could change, however.  Interim Chancellor Dan Howard is offering them 14% of Student Action fund money and that isn’t sitting well with some members.

“Well, I don’t have a problem supporting if you think something is better than nothing,” says GSC member Mark Randall, “My concern is that is a token, not enough to accomplish anything.”  He says it feels like the administration is “throwing a bone” to shut the GSC up.

The proposed funding could increase if the Graduate enrollment went up as well as decrease if Graduate enrollment decreases.  Two years ago, the GSC recieved a one-time $10,000 dollar offer from then-Chancellar Robert Potts.  The GSC turned down the offer.

GSC President Didi McCann says the offer made by Dr. Howard is legit and will be permanate.  “If we accept this funding at this point and time, it will be the Grad Student councils”

The GSC decided to postpone the offical vote on the subject to next weeks meeting.  This will give them time to inform and educate all graduate students on the matter and get their opinions on the issue.
